
INSIDER: High flyers from KC Varsity Combines, top verticals (April 29) – We look at the top 10 verticals from the KC Varsity Combines April 29th event.
1.) Ryan Spurgeon, 5-10, 174, Slotback/SS, 2024, St. James
Topping all athletes at the April 29th KC Varsity Combines with a vertical of 39.3 inches was this high flyer from St. James. Spurgeon is a top looking athlete from St. James and will be looking for a big senior season coming up, a good athlete on the radar and a senior prospect making the radar as one of the guys that can really sky. An impressive slot back on the offensive side of the football looking to have a big final season for St. James.
2.) Dontae Burch
, 5-8, 181, WR/RB, 2024, Christ Prep Academy

Burch has continued to impress us every time we see this hot ’24 offensive weapon and versatile good hands and vision back and WR from Christ Prep Academy. Burch’s vertical mark of 38.7 inches was second best at the KC Varsity Combines April 29th event and we can’t say we are surprised as at that mark. Burch is one of the rising stars out there on the radar and is proving just how good of an athlete he is as well. Burch has earned a Mid-America Nazarene offer and will be looking to stack up several more offers with a big final season in 2023.
3.) Charlie Ross III, 5-10, 170, WR/ATH, 2025, St. Pius X@CHussle0
Anywhere on the field where you need a lot of speed and a good play maker is where Ross needs to be at. a 37.3 inch vertical, good for third best at the April 29th KC Varsity Combines event, Ross has made recent visits to major D1 programs OU and K-State and certainly is getting some well deserved attention as one of the KC area WRs and offensive weapons to know in the ’25 class. Ross is very fast in the open field and can make guys miss, a talent that has a big motor and an impressive work ethic looking for a big junior season at St. Pius X.
4.) Declan Battle, 6-0, 185, 2024, QB, Louisburg @BattleDeclan
Battle was one of the outstanding athletes from the April 29th KC Varsity Combines event and had the fourth best vertical with a mark of 36.7 inches, a big high flyer through the air and one of the rising names to know among Missouri athletes in the 2024 class. Battle is a proven QB standout and athlete from Louisburg, the All-State QB and First Team All-League QB is coming off a huge junior campaign in 2022. Battle helped Louisburg claim the Frontier League Championship and had 1027 passing yards, 709 rushing yards, and 18 TDs as one of the dual threat names to know in the Missouri QB class of ’24. Big things are expected in a senior season from one of the state’s top rising QB prospects to know.
5.) Jacorey Love
, 5-10, 185, RB, 2024, Liberty North

With a vertical of 36.6 inches, Love was the fifth best on the fay for the KC Varsity Combines April 29th event and is one of the top looking Missouri prospects in the senior class to know. Not just a great looking athlete, Love is also one of the best football players and a proven go to offensive weapon for Liberty North. Love is a three time All-State, All-Conference, and All-District RB and is also a big track and field standout.
6.) Montrel Henderson,RB, 2026, Lee’s Summit North@_mhenderson3
With a vertical of 36.5 inches this Lee’s Summit North running back and younger prospect in the 2026 class was one of the more athletic sophomores there and his mark was 6th best among all athletes in the vertical. Henderson brings another gear and level of speed that is hard to handle, once the speedster gets to the outside edge has that ability to get up the field and make the defense chase him with his impressive down field speed as a young back that can really turn it on.
7.) Easton Goss, 5-11, 180, DB, 2025, Liberty North@GossEaston
A very impressive looking athlete from Liberty North, Goss had the seventh best vertical at the KC Varsity Combines April 29th event, a mark of 36.4 inches. Goss was one of the most athletic defensive backs in attendance and is certainly one of the secondary play makers that can literally sky for the football in the air. Goss will be looking to use his speed and is also a very strong and physical player on the field as well, Easton reports a bench press of 250 pounds.
T.8.) Kellen Lair, 5-10, 170, SB/K/KR, 2025, Fair Grove

Lair is one of of the most impressive looking athletes you will find coming out of a SW Missouri football field. Tied for 8th best vertical at the KC Varsity Combines event on April 29th with a mark of 35.8 inches. Lair is an All Conference, All District, All Region, and All State kick returner, slot back and kicker from Fair Grove High School. Lair who earned a FINALS invite from 6Star Football this winter is one of the top pure hands and speed combo WRs and slot backs we saw this offseason and is looking for a very big junior season coming up.
T-8.) Tyler West, 5-9, 150, CB/WR, 2025, Shawnee Mission NW@tylerwest06
West tied for eighth best mark in the vertical at the April 29th KC Varsity Combines event, a mark of 35.8 inches. Super hot prospect in the class of 2025 from Shawnee Mission Northwest, West is a burner and its no surprise as he is a top track and field big time speed guy as well. West has turned in times in the 100m of 11.02, 200m of 22.2 and reports a top 40 time of 4.36. West will be looking to use his next level speed and major ups to be one of the most menacing defensive backs in the Kansas class of ’25 this season.
10.) Charlie Gewinner, 5-9, 180, RB, 2024, Bellevue West (Neb.)

One of the most athletic players at the April 29th KC Varsity Combines was this Nebraska rising running back prospect from powerhouse Bellevue West, 5-9, 180 Gewinner cracked the top 10 at the event in the vertical with an impressive looking mark of 35.6 inches. Gewinner is getting more and more next level looks, Chadron State, SW MN State, and Briar Cliff among early lookers for this very talented athlete from Bellevue West.
