INSIDER: Nebraska Super Sophomore WR’s that are big play makers – We look at some of the super sophomores in the 2023 WR class in Nebraska, guys with good frames like 6-4 inch Lincoln target Beni Ngoyi and a two way standout and play maker Joe Roll at Gretna has all the skills to be one of the top play makers in the state for ’23s best athletes. Donnovan Whitfield of Bellevue West is another multi faceted play maker that also can serve as a punter and a kick and punt returner, one of those true impact makers for sure.
Beni Ngoyi, 6-4, 180, WR/DB, 2023, Lincoln @beni_ngoyi
No doubt when you start looking down the list of Nebraska’s WRs in the 2023 class not many are 6-4 or taller in frame, a eye grabber for the next level coaches, but Lincoln’s Beni Ngoyi is 6-4, 180, tall and also very lean. Has the build and body to be one of the most intriguing WRs in the Nebraska super sophomore class. No doubt one of the biggest targets in the Nebraska WR class of 2023, the 6-4, 180 pound big target is a Lincoln High pass catching threat that is athletic and has the skills to be a very special player. Beni can be that player that can be that the deep threat player, with very good jumping ability, especially with his height. Can broad jump: 10ft 1inches, no doubt a guy that is big and can get up, an impressive combination of athletic skills.
Kieyn Omon, 5-10, 180, WR/FS, 2023, Beatrice @OmonKieyn
A guy that can be very dangerous down the sidelines with good speed and shows some of the better down field vision among Nebraska’s top 2023 prospects at WR. Also a safety on defense, Omon could be one of the big go to WRs for Beatrice in he 2021 and 2022 seasons ahead. A player that is smart and has good hands also, one of those guys that catches well and then can use his good speed and athletic ability to make some huge gains.
Kemper Reed, 5-5, 120, DB/WR, 2023, Waverly @KemperReed
Waverly has a lot of talent, one of the faces that could be a good one coming up through their system is a sophomore and class of ’23 play maker in Kemper Reed. Reed is a guy that may end up projecting more as a DB and a guy that Waverly will use as a closer to add speed to their defense in the coming years, we like Reed’s speed on both sides of the ball to be a potential difference maker at Waverly.
Jose Rodriguez, 5-8, 145, WR,2023, Scottsbluff @Joserdz230
No doubt one of the more wirey play makers for Scottsbluff, Rodriguez has that big play potential that you really like to see and is a player that can make a big play out of nothing. An exciting player to watch and a player that can be a game changer also. We look for him to be one of the key impact makers for Scottsbluff in 2021 and 2022 seasons. Also a special teams threat that can be an open field threat with big time speed and elusiveness for his team. A very impressive open field speed player in the ’23 class.
Joe Roll, 5-10, 160, WR/CB, 2023, Gretna @JoeRoll12
Roll is already a huge impact maker as a sophomore for Gretna and has all the makings of being another outstanding two way sensation for the powerhouse Gretna program. Roll is a player that can make some huge things happen and is one of those very impressive players that racked up 11 tackles, scored a pair of TDs and had a fumble recovery in a very good outing vs. Papio South. Also is a special teams standout that can make huge hits and plays on the ball. For sure one of the most well rounded super sophomore class of ’23 players in the state right now.
Cayden Serfass, WR, 2023, Gretna @CaydenSerfass
Another Gretna class of 2023 WR to watch out for on Gretna, Serfass could be the good hands play maker of the future for Gretna and is a good athlete that with the right opportunities could be a good one in the coming years for Gretna. May project more as a play making defensive back that could be a good open field tackler and a guy with the speed to close and make some nice impact plays in the coming years for Gretna.
Jayshaun Smith, 5-8, 154, WR, 2023, Bellevue West @Jayshaunsmith1
No doubt about it Bellevue West could be the most athletic team in the state and has proven that on the field along with multiple standouts with many of them receiving D1 offers. On the loaded WR core, no doubt the build and lean body time of ’23 play maker Jayshaun Smith is a player that has the look of being a player of the future and could be a special one indeed. Has good hands, can turn a play into a big gainer with his speed and ability to get up the field and get the most out of every touch. One to watch out for and a player with some good speed, Smith is a ’23 must see player.
Dom Vincentini, 5-10, WR, 2023, Omaha Westside @DomVincentini
No doubt the Westside club has some loaded talent without question and one of the young faces that could be a good one coming up is 5-10 WR Dom Vincentini. Brings a toughness to the WR spot and being a top notch lacrosse player does not hurt either. A player that could be very interesting to watch in the coming years could be the tough nosed target from Westside.
Donnovan Whitfield, 6-2, 168, WR/P/PR, 2023, Bellevue West @Donnovan_Whit16
A guy that can do it all and has the makings of being one of the big timers in the Nebraska 2023 class, Whitfield is speedy and big at 6-2, 165, Whitfield also is a very dangerous kick return threat and a player that can flat out fly down the field. Whitfield is a player that is one of those players that can also be the teams Punter, and Returner and has great hands along with being a very focused player on and off the field and is a guy that is working day in and out. Runs a 4.78 in the 40 yard dash and is a player to keep an eye on in 2021 and 2022.
Ian Witherell, 5-10, 160, WR, 2023, Plattsmouth @Ian72740670
Plattsmouth has some guys that are very good and a guy that could be one of those impact makers in the coming years could be sophomore Ian Witherell. The 5-10, 160 WR has a 28 inch vertical and is a player that has the ability to get up and make some grabs that could be chain moving plays for Plattsmouth. The WR/DB has key elements to his game of speed and determination, and runs the 40 yard dash in 4.8 seconds, has a broad of 7’6”, benches 235, and squats 315 pounds.
