The Tampa Florida region features several of the state’s top prospects at a variety of positions across the board. With summer camp and combine events heating up, Six Star Football is taking an inside look at the prospects college programs are looking at this offseason.
Here, Six Star Football takes a look at several of the Tampa area’s top DE prospects to know in the 2021 class.
Chris Davis, 6’3, 215, DE, 2021, Armwood @Cdj18_
One of the most impressive looking athletes in the state of Florida, Armwood’s Chris Davis stands 6-3, 215 and is long and fast off the outside edge. Davis is a weak side defensive end who can play the run and also rush the passer, Plays DE and OLB and racked up 48 tackles with an impressive 22 tackles for losses and eight sacks. Holds offers from Buffalo, Toledo , Army WP, Georgia state ,Middle Tennessee, Tennessee Martin and Grambling and is one of those players for sure getting a lot of nice looks and attention.
Cole Essek, 6’6, 240, DE/TE, 2021, TB Catholic @coleessek
Essek’s style of play is old fashion football. He enjoys the game and doesn’t focus on the star aspect as much as performance on the field. He played left tackle last year, but can play tight end and defensive end, as well as long snapping. He reports a 4.8 40 300 bench and 400 squat. Essek earned coaches award for the season as well. He recently chose Appalachian State over several offers, including Toledo, West Point, Bowling Green, UTM, Coastal Carolina, Eastern Michigan, Appalachian State, Utah State, Middle Tennessee, Air Force, Mercer, Central Arkansas, Eastern Tennessee, and FIU.
Henry Hughes, 6’6, 215, DE, 2021, TB Tech @henryhughes121
One of those D1 build DE’s for sure at a very impressive long and lean 6-6, 215. Hughes is a player that excels at using his long strides and good speed off the edge to be a big time closer on QB and back and an elite play maker that lives in the opponents backfield play after play. Can bat passes down at 6’6 and is a guy that is just a major headache for offenses to figure out how that can keep him from making big play after big play. He recently chose Rutgers over offers from Illinois, Tulan, UT-Chattanooga, Buffalo, FAU, Georgia State, Syracuse, Bowling Green, Minnesota, FIU, Western Kentucky, Rutgers, Iowa State, Indiana and Toledo.
Asa VanBuren, 6’2, 215, DE, 2021, Gaither @AsaVanburen
A very physical and quick DE that moves well in space and is a big time looking athlete and play maker. A guy that has speed and power off the snap, good footwork and a great tackler in the backfield that is tough and smart on the field. Holds an offer from Tennessee State University, the first of many that we are thinking will be coming his way very soon. Watch out for this big time talent and pass rusher for Gaither.
Edward Williams, 6’2, 217, DE, 2021, Middleton @1kwilliam1
A very good athlete and one of those very high IQ football defensive players that plays with patience and skill. Good power and a guy that has a very solid 6-2, 217 frame off the outside edge for Middleton. Williams is a guy that has the speed to chase down and drag QBs to the ground for big losses and plays in the backfield. A guy that can also drop back in pass coverage when needed. One of those all around talented prospects in Florida. Iowa, Southern Miss, South Florida have all offered.
