The Daytona & St. John Florida area features several of the state’s top prospects at a variety of positions across the board. With the season underway, Six Star Football is taking an inside look at the prospects college programs are looking at this season.
Here, Six Star Football takes a look at several of the top MLB prospects to know in the 2021 class in the Daytona & St. John areas.
Zavier Chatman, 6’0, 210, MLB/DT/FB, 2021, Ponte Vedra @_ogzavier_
A defensive standout for Ponte Vedra who currently holds an offer from Finlandia University. He is good at anticipating plays and looks to slip or even force his way through blockers and get to the ball. Chatman has good size at 6’0, 210-pounds and he brings strength and good muscle tone to the field. He can power his way up the field and is good at catching up with players on space and can bring them down with force. A LB who can also see time as a ball carrier given his strength and creativity and his improved footwork and agility which helps him on both sides of the ball.
Colt Brown, 6’1, 215, MLB, 2021, Seabreeze @ColtBrown13
A strong and physical player for Seabreeze who can dominate a game on the defensive side of the ball. Brown has a solid ability to get to the backfield and apply pressure and a knack for making contact and bringing down ball carriers before they cross the line. He is good at reading a QB and can even come up with sacks. Brown is constantly applying pressure and he also shows the versatility needed to see time as a DE as well. A 6’1m 215-pound player who has good muscle tone but also has good speed off the line and in open space. He records a 310 bench, 500 squat, and a 4.8 40-yards dash. Brown is also a standout in the classroom who reports a 3.9 GPA.
Maliak Brunson, 6’0, 215, MLB, 2021, Mainland @DonDada1_
A strong and mobile LB who runs well and can make plays on the ball carrier even when opponents are looking to avoid his side of the field. Brunson does a good job of keeping himself in a position to make plays on the ball. He is listed at 6’0, 215-pounds and can be counted on either inside or outside (although more of a MLB), showing the burst and footwork needed to make plays against the passing game and close to the line. Last year he had 45 solo tackles (75 total), and he reports a 315 bench, a 475 squat and a 4.7 40 time. Brunson also reports a 24 ACT score. Brunson reports an offer from Tennessee-Martin.
Jacob Cutler, 6’0, 195, MLB, 2021, Bartram Trail @JacobCutler52
A tough and hard-nosed prospect who has a lot of power to his hits. He has great timing to his tackles and contact and can find edges and surprise QBs and ball carriers from the side with a powerful tackle that has even lead to interceptions and turnovers. A 6’0, 195-pound player who has a good upside and strong athleticism, Cutler uses his eyes and instincts well for a versatile LB. Cutler currently holds offers from Rhodes, Methodist University, Juniata, Allegheny, Puget Sound and Denison University. He also reports a 275 bench and a 375 squat. Also a standout in the classroom who records a 4.20 GPA.
Xavier Frazier, 5’10, 195, MLB, 2021, Interlachen @xa_ff
A strong player for his size and position who pushes himself on the field and in the weight room. Listed at 5’10, 195-pounds, Frazier has good size and power and he shows athleticism in space. He can make tackles on his own, showing an ability to wrap up players and bring them to the ground. He is also good at finishing plays for his teammates, looking to quickly make contact and even target the ball. Frazier is a well-balanced prospect who has good athleticism and smart playmaking skills for a defender.
JJ Kelly, 5’11, 190, MLB, 2021, Seabreeze @J_Kelly436
An athletic prospect who has good size and the ability to make plays as a linebacker and even a safety. Kelly is listed at 5’11 and has increased his weight to 199-pounds. He has good arms and good footwork and speed and can backpedal well and then turn and make plays both through the air and on the ball. He is a strong player who has good awareness and can tip away passes, make tackles on ball carriers close to the line and also forced turnovers both through his tackles and with interceptions. An underrated player who has put the time in over the offseason. He reports a 3.0 GPA and a 1020 SAT score.
Robert Lindemann, 5’11, 190, MLB, 2021, Trinity @LindemannEli
A hybrid linebacker who can be counted on to get to the ball and play well in one-on-one situations. He can see time on both sides of the ball, but he looks his best when he’s on defense. He has good leadership and vision and is good at spotting changes in plays at the line. Lindemann looks to make plays straight up the middle, showing strength and balance. He can fight through coverage and would-be blockers and can overpower interior lineman at times, showing creativity which can surprise opponents. He had well over 30 tackles last season and had three strips, two tipped balls and three kick blocks. He has a 330 deadlift and a 400 squat and a 4.7 40-yard dash.
Darrell Myers, 5’10, 205, MLB, 2021, St. Augustine @darr3lll
An underrated prospect who has the power, frame and the playmaking ability to make plays at the next level. Myers plays bigger than his listed height, showing a big frame and a good deal of muscle. He has increased his weight over the offseason and he is not maxed out physically. He’s an athletic player with great rhythm and bounce and he runs hard and can get from one sideline to another. He can overpower opponents and push and fling blockers out of the way on his way to the ball carrier. Also a track and field standout in the 110 hurdles and a weightlifter as well.
Markese Peterson, 5’11, 225, MLB, 2021, Atlantic @MarkesePeterson
Paterson is a strong and well-built prospect who can see time as a MLB or a DE. He has speed and in-game quickness and he looks to push and power his way through contact. A bully who can play hard impose his will off the line. He maneuvers well in close contact with little room to operate and can push his way through blockers and interior lieman. A player who pushes up and gets opponents off their feet and off their mark on his way to the QB. A player who can make strong tackles for loss and pressure the QB and get hits and force him to scramble.
Michael Sklare, 6’3, 220, MLB, 2021, Atlantic @_Golden_boy_21
A large and physical prospect at LB at 6’3, 220-pounds who plays well on the inside. He’s an underrated and under recruited prospect who has a lot to offer and a frame that stands out on the field. He explodes on film and can burst through coverage and make plays in the pocket. He is hard to shake given his speed and athleticism and length and he can trip up players or take them head-on. Sklare has increased his strength and power after the snap and looks to cover ground well, still maintaining his speed and force. Also a standout student in the classroom who reports a 4.1 GPA. A player to watch closely this season.
