The Northeast Florida region features several of the state’s top prospects at a variety of positions across the board. With the season underway, Six Star Football is taking an inside look at the prospects college programs are looking at this season.
Here, Six Star Football takes a look at several prospects to know in the 2021 class in the Daytona & St. John’s, First Coast and North Central areas.
Matthew Lovett, 6’7, 200, DE/OL, 2021, South Walton
A good-sized prospect who has long arms, improving footwork and an ability to stay with his opponents and get to the ball. He sees time on both sides of the ball and can operate as an interior and exterior alignment. Has good speed as well and can when one-on-one matchups and make plays on ball carriers. A 6’7, 200-pound athlete who works hard and he shows good upper body strength and leverage which allows him to throw down opponents and stop drives.

Taquaris Sims, 6’1, 230, DE/FB 2021, Arnold
Sims is an athletic and underrated prospect who has an ability to get to the backfield and make plays in the quarterback. He has a quick first step and just has a way of slipping past opponents. He runs well down the field and can gain speed and tackle opponents from behind. Also strong player special teams who moves well and can make strong hits and open things up for the ball carrier. A versatile player listed at 6-1, 230 pounds who is motivated and shows a solid understanding for his position and what is being asked of him on each down.

Mario Sailor, 5’9, 135, FS, 2021, Munroe @mario_sailorjr
A two-way prospect who can create his own path with the ball in his hands and shows a solid ability to break up plays and force turnovers. Sailor is an underrated prospect at FS who has great speed and a hard-nosed mentality. He gets to the ball carrier quickly and he is good at anticipating plays and athletes when they are looking to create. An underrated player in his position who is also under recruited as a prospect. A talented athlete who has a good upside and he plays big and plays strong and physical. Sailor has a lot of talent and shows a good upside.

Lamont Sims, 5’10, 170, FS, 2021, Escambia
A quick and motivated free safety who runs hard and has been putting in the time this offseason with his conditioning and strength training. Sims has good size at 5’10, 170-pounds and he shows good speed and an ability to come away with the ball. He tracks plays well on the move and can hit opponents at the point of completion which can lead to pass deflections. A standout last season, Sims has potential to make an even bigger splash this upcoming season. Last season he recorded 50 tackles and had four interceptions and five pass deflections.

Tyler Buchanan, 6’2, 175, QB, 2021, Milton
An underrated player who is calm in the pocket and can hot receivers in the corner of the end zone. He throws well along the sideline and does so on big plays with solid form and with little effort. He has great footwork for his position, one of the top at this in the area. He often makes plays to his first option as he looks to get the ball out quickly. Buchanan moves well out of the pocket as well, a player who has a good deal of potential as a QB and is comfortable in high pressure, fourth down situations on the goal line.

Lance Footman, 6’1, 225, MLB/RB, 2021, Jefferson County @lance_footman54
Footman is an extremely versatile prospect who can play OLB, MLB or DE on defense and is a hybrid RB/FB on offense, showcasing the ability to block or run hard. He brings a passion for the game and plays with a big motor, bringing intensity to the field. At linebacker, Footman runs to the ball well, shed tackles in space and is a hard hitter. On offense, he is a power runner, able to break tackles and finish runs hard. He can step up and provide some coverage for the Jefferson County pass game as a blocker and has the strength to take on an on-coming pass rusher. Footman has drawn an offer from Florida Memorial and interest from Mercer among others.

Logan Pumphrey, 5’9, 150, QB, 2021, Blountstown
A reliable option who can run around the field and make plays through the air as well. He is a smart athlete who has a good eye for openings and he can find spots to squeeze through and get around LBs and DBs who are looking to recover and get to the ball. He can throw on the move and has a good arm for big plays down the field. A 5’9, 150-pound QB who can do a bit of everything and looks to do whatever he can to find his teammates and move the chains. Pumphrey picked up his first offer from Bethel College on May 13.
